It is hard to believe that the long, hot days of summer are rapidly starting to come to a close, with kids heading back to school in the next few weeks. The Walla Walla Community, nominated for USA Today’s 2018 Best Wine Region (vote for us now!), will then start to gear up for harvest and Fall Release Weekend with the Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days marking the near official close of summer 2018.
Before we mourn the loss of daylight and praise the time gained from the little ones going back to school, there are a few more community events that can help make these last few weeks of summer memorable.
Recess Monkey Concert: Friday August 3rd
Since 2005, this trio if Seattle-based former elementary school teachers have been making family friendly music. They have released 13 albums, and perform all over the United States with an emphasis on participation from the audience. We are so lucky that the Moms Network in Walla Walla has been able to secure a performance from them here: Friday August 3rd in front of Sweet Basil Pizza on First at 7pm. The concert is free, family friendly and guaranteed to be FUN!
Walla Walla Fair & Frontier Days: Begins Wednesday August 29th
Dating back to 1866, the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days begins the Wednesday before labor day, and features concerts, demos, rodeos, carnival rides and more! Wednesday opens with a County Fair and Country concert. Thursday brings more Fair fun with a Demo Derby that evening. Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the PRCA rodeo and Saturday is the Frontier Days Parade in downtown Walla Walla as well as the Open Horse Show. Catch the 4-H, FFA and Open livestock exhibitors in action Friday and Saturday morning with the Cattlemen’s Youth Market Sale on Sunday.
Walla Walla has much for you to choose from to fill your last fleeting days of summer. You can always check out the other events around town here.
